Are You A Good Public Speaker? QUIZ August 7, 2023 Take this quiz if you already have given a lecture, presentation, or public speech. Pick the answers that really characterize your behavior, not the ones you think would be ideal. If you answer honestly, at the end of the test, it will be revealed what kind of speaker you really are. 1. What is your presentation style? I read out my notes and try to avoid eye contact with my audience. I try to speak naturally and when necessary, I involve my audience. I try to deliver my presentation as I practiced it in advance. Therefore I find it disturbing if the audience interrupts me with questions. My presentation topic should speak for itself. It is not the style of my speaking that matters. 2. How do you look when you deliver a speech? My whole body is shivering of excitement, and I am sweating heavily. I look really nervous. Due to stress, my speech tone doesn't seem natural either. I am excited, but I make efforts to handle it and not to show it. I look nervous a bit in the beginning, however I get over it when I start to speak. 3. How do you maintain your audience's attention? I interact with my audience during my speech. I ask questions occasionally and I pause in case I find it necessary. The topic of my presentation always speaks for itself. It is engaging enough to maintain their attention. If I detect that the audience is bored, I finish my speech. I use many different colors and fonts in my presentation, and sometimes include vivid music. 4. How do you keep everything in mind what you need to say? I jot down the most important key words for myself connected to the main topics. I make a note for myself in which I write everything word by word. My presentation slides include everything that needs to be mentioned. I just simply try to memorize everything. 5. What do you do with your hands while you speak? Nothing. I keep them still as much as possible. I am fidgeting with a pen or with something else. I am gesturing lively. I am gesturing the same way like at any other occasions. 6. Are you nervous or have stage fright during your speech? I am suffering from strong stage fright, my nerves are extremely strained. If I prepare thoroughly beforehand, I can stay calm and relaxed. I have stage fright, however I try to overcome it. Sometimes I don't succeed in it. I am pretty nervous, but as I start my speech, stress decreases. 7. Do you smile during your presentation? Only if I feel happy. Only if I am not nervous. I can force a smile even if I feel excited. This helps me relax and remain calm. I am not stressed at all when I have to speak in public, therefore smiling comes naturally. 8. Do you use humour during your speeches? I use as much humour as I can during my presentation. My goal is that the audience enjoys my lecture. I don't use humour in my speeches. If I tried to be funny, the audience wouldn't take me seriously. Sometimes I use humour as a tool. This is helpful for the engagement of the audience, so they enjoy the lecture better. I start all my speeches by telling a joke or a funny story. This catches their attention. WHAT IS MY SCORE?
